Big and Little Crochet

The throw that I designed for Hachette’s Big and Little Crochet has been accompanied by videos for each hexagon. Hachette are cutting costs and decided to stop the films, so I’m posting them here and on The Crafter channel on Youtube. Enjoy.

Hi Tammy I hope you sorted this out. Round 7 is worked around the posts from round 5, which are doubles in the back loop (or dcB). I wrote these patterns 4 years ago, so it’s a blur!

Can you tell me how many parts there are to Big and Little crochet? I am up to number 64 at the moment. Thank you.

Hi, having purchased big and little crochet through WHSmiths I’ve recently collected my magazines as we’ve been isolating, am missing issues 54-55. Would like to know what type of wool it is as I’m running low on the white wool
And would like to purchase them. Any help would be appreciated, is there a substitute for the wool you could recommend
    Thanks

Hi Mathew, there are 75 issues. There should be enough yarn in the end, but if you need more you could try Rowan Handknit Cotton, or any other double knit cotton.

I am extremely disappointed in many ways. I was 18 months to late on discovering this throw and contacted the suppliers and brought 6 issues to start and learn this throw. Only 5 arrived having paid for the 6 and still no magazine or refund.

Your throw is adorable. I enjoyed making my three hexagons….. without the blue so can’t make more.
What a waste of money for me.

        I eat my words!!!
Thank you for helping out. I received in the post my missing copies and additional stuff to allow me to continue. I am happily making my throw with my trust restored to purchase more From the publishers! Willing to try again.
So thrilled and just completed my 8th hexagon with your video help also.

Hi Katy. Have really enjoyed following your tutorials. And you have a very relaxing voice! Could u possibly tell me how many 50h balls the hexagon blanket takes in total? I’m making it in Merino wool which has been discontinued and would like to order some. Thanks

Hi Laura, the balls of cotton in the throw are only 25g and there is one with each issue, so that’s about 35 normal balls of 50g yarn, but I don’t think you would need nearly that much as Merino is lighter than cotton. I’d say approx 3 50g balls per colour would do it, though you’ll need more of the joining colour or the white in the pattern. Hope that helps!

Hello Katy, Thank you for really great tutorials, which I have been keenly following, for the big and little crochet throw, but have suddenly come to the end of them and cannot find any after 35. Are they recorded somewhere else please?
    Regards Lynne

Hi Lynne, I stopped doing the tutorials at that point. I was paid to do them up to issue 10, but carried on since people wanted them. I hope you will be able to struggle on by your self after making 35 hexagons! best wishes, Katy

Yes I did manage to do it and now I am stuck on 62 just can’t work it out please help so near to compleation

          2. TheCrafter Post author

Hi Christine, I hope you managed to work out no 62. This one is uses ’round the post’ stitches, so that some of the rounds are raised up. Search for round the post, or front post stitches on youtube and you should find some help.
